The following information details the cemetery reservation and internment process in Balranald Shire.
Cemetery Reservation Process
Some people choose to select and reserve a plot in the cemetery to avoid the added grief for family or to be close to deceased family members.
People who wish to reserve a plot must call Council and select the plot after viewing Council’s plans, and complete the Reservation Form below.
Once a plot has been chosen and the application fees paid in full (for plot only), the application is processed and a ‘Right of Burial’ is issued as proof of the reservation. Interment costs will be invoiced at time of burial.

Cemetery Internment Process
The normal procedure when a person dies is to contact a Funeral Director who will assist you with the necessary funeral arrangements. An application for a Burial Permit is made usually by the Funeral Director and if a cemetery plot has been reserved, proof (in the form of a ‘Right of Burial’ document) is submitted with the application.
A ‘Right of Burial’ is then issued and the burial may take place as arranged by the Funeral Director.
Ashes may be interred in any of Councils Cemeteries by arrangement.
Balranald Cemetery
The Balranald Cemetery is located at Moa Street, Balranald.
This cemetery is fully operational and is open every day. It is divided into the following sections – Lawn, Church of England, Presbyterian and Catholic. This cemetery’s records are maintained by Balranald Shire Council.
Euston Cemetery
The Euston Cemetery is located at Cowper Street, Euston.
This cemetery is fully operational and is open every day. This cemetery’s records are maintained by Balranald Shire Council.
Can I be buried on private property?
Balranald Shire Council has a policy permitting burials on private lands, as prescribed under the NSW Health Act.
